STOP PRESS - GREAT NEWS!!!
The exciting news is that we have two new members joining Home Cooked Blues- Mark Jones (Cajon drum) and Miles Steeden (Bass).
We're happy to say we've lured these two reprobates out of retirement, and they are adding welcome depth and flavour to our sound.
We play what we like to call "swampy blues" - it's raw, quirky and entertaining and is very popular wherever we play - it's even been described as "Happy Blues."
We have been well received at festivals, blues venues, pubs, private parties etc. We have been busy building a substantial following on social media, and our "Homies" follow us around the country to support us live.
We are available for gigs - please contact us if you have any queries, and leave your email address and/or phone number for us to get back to you.
Rob and Chrissy , now of a certain age, married second time around after meeting on the internet over 10yrs ago.
Rob had played bass in rock bands for years and Chrissy was writing and performing songs inspired by her teenage kids and man troubles. So, eventually, when Rob and Chrissy managed to blend their musical tastes, they stirred and simmered their pot of HOME COOKED BLUES adding a homemade 3 string slide guitar and a harp to the spicy smooth blues recipe.....mmm....
We live in a small cottage on the edge of a Suffolk village -the setting of an ideal rustic muse for our very own homemade blues.
And how do we write our songs, I hear you ask?
Well, sometimes Rob will come up with a riff on his newest three string guitar, made from an off-cut of kitchen worktop oak or a roasting tin, and Chrissy will create vocals and harmonica. Chrissy has even been known to jump out of bed early on a Sunday morning with lyrics and a melody whizzing round in her head. The songs will evolve organically from our lives together......for example, we wrote track "Renovation" when we first moved in and realised that most of our neighbours were of a similar age to us, had also bought their houses from the estate of a deceased elderly person and proceeded to work hard on their projects so they could see out the end of their days and the process resume.
"Pillion" was born on holiday on a tiny Thai Island where the only way to keep cool in the humidity was to jump on a scooter together and see where it took us! Chrissy had been hesitant at first due to "health and safety" concerns, but in the spirit of middle-aged adventure, she soon progressed from sidecar to pillion. And the nugget of an idea for "Jack Iron Rumble" came from the effects of our first encounter with 70% rum in Grenada...probably the least said about that, the better.
Strangely, the only time we argue is when we're creating because we're both so passionate about getting the sound just right, so we've had to learn to tussle until we're satisfied....!
We've been enjoying learning new instruments. Chrissy picked up the harmonica during the long hours of COVID lockdown, and Rob discovered the joys of the 3 string slide guitar - due to his caveman-sized hands, Rob had always struggled with a six string.
Chrissy is thankful that, despite his great age, Rob is so persistent with the technical side of our venture. He refuses to give up until he finds a way, and has managed to produce our tracks and get them out there to be heard.
We hope you enjoy our music as we'll continue writing into our even older age...
We've also just recorded our first Album, "Can't Bury Me 'til I'm Dead"
We're working on the artwork etc and hope to launch the album in the new year. Watch this space......
